Congratulations to Whittlesea City Basketball Association mainstay and all-around star

Ken Numa on being named one of our Bulla Local Heroes!

Ken Numa has been announced as our latest winner in the Bulla Local Heroes competition, presented by Basketball Victoria.

Ken was nominated by Steven Russell who said this about him in the nomination:
“I am nominating Ken for this award for the constant work he puts in with the local basketball community and the work load he piles on to assure that the kids of our competitions are well looked after. Ken is now into his 70s and has been around generations before I was born. Ken is currently coaching for the Whittlesea Pacers U/12s program who successfully made VC this season with Keven Patterson. Unfortunately this team could not play this season due to COVID-19.
“He is also coaching with a junior domestic club by the name of Titans and has had much success with all age groups from U/12s down as of late. He is also Chairman of the JDC (Junior Domestic Committee) who is a group of domestic club representative members who come together and suggest new rules and bylaws for the domestic games played on a Saturday.
“There are 20 plus people on this committee and it can be extremely hard to deal with all of us, I to am on this committee and these meeting do get heated, but he keeps a calm and professional demeanor in these meetings.
“Outside of his club and association commitments he helps all kids with support and a appreciation for the game regardless of what club they are from, what skin tone, race or gender they are. He also helps out coaches with education of the game as well. The former president of my club (Mill Park Blazers) Gary Brown has told me he was coaching back when he was playing. Gary is now 64 years old.
“I would like to nominate Ken for this award as I feel he puts in more than enough and rarely gets recognized for it.”

As a weekly winner, Bulla and Melbourne United are excited to reward Ken with;

                • THREE-MONTH supply of Bulla’s award-winning Murray St Ice Cream (valued at $120)
                • a Melbourne United cap
                • a carton of Bulla Hoop Time Spalding outdoor balls for your school, association or club of choice!

Congratulations to Ken and we thank you for your unwavering work in the Victorian basketball community.
