Update on the Coronavirus from the WCBA

Hi all,

We understand that basketball is a large part of many people’s lives, which will be missed at the moment, however our current priority is to make decisions that ensure the health and wellbeing of all players, coaches, officials, staff, volunteers and all of our families are maintained.

We have been listening to the questions and concerns of our community. Please see below for clarification on certain matters:

WCBA sanctioned activities, programs and events will be suspended through the state of emergency period. Below is a list of the programs etc and the planned dates to return. These dates may change, and we will continue to provide updates as it comes to us.

With regard to both the Junior and Senior Domestic Competitions:

  • Players that need these cancelled dates for qualification will be given the games. Please email myself pam.hughes@wcba.org.au for Junior Players and Natalie – natalie.dowdy@wcba.org.au         for Senior qualification.
  • Teams that had new Junior players starting as at 14.3 will also be added into the system. Please email me about these players.
  • The aim is for all players both Junior and Senior not to be disadvantaged by this crisis when it comes to finals.

As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we work through this difficult period. This is a decision we don’t take lightly and want to reassure the basketball Community that we will continue to work with the Victorian Government and other health authorities to ensure the health and wellbeing of our players, coaches, referees and staff are maintained.

Further updates will be provided in the coming weeks.

Thanks for your support.

Sincerely,

David Hughes
